Sad news emerged today from the MMA world. After suffering a brain aneurysm several days ago, Bellator MMA and LFA veteran Katy Collins has died. The news was confirmed by her coach at Brandon Fight Club, JT Tilley, in a Facebook post.

In it, Tilley wrote that “The fight is over. You never stopped fighting and we never gave up on you. Just wasn’t in the cards.”

“…I’ve always been so proud of you Kate. We did it. I was honored to be able to live you your dream with you. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I will miss you more than the world will ever know.”

Bellator matchmaker Rich Chou had tweeted about Collins’ condition several days back, and a GoFundMe was set up to cover medical bills. She initially fell ill September 20, with updates to her condition made available by supporters and family on social media. Sadly, things took a turn for the worse. Collins’ sister Kristie also confirmed the tragic news Wednesday. The GoFundMe has subsequently been changed to a memorial fund to cover both memorial and medical expenses.

The page’s organizers confirmed Collins’ passing as well:

“Katy Collins fought as hard as she could. On September 25th, Katy peacefully left this Earth. She leaves behind so many loved ones, family and friends who care so much for her. Katy leaves behind two young sons, who will struggle to understand this, like many of us. Katy was young and strong and full of life and love. Her family will need all the help they can with funeral and medical costs. Any help at all is so appreciated. I know that Katy would have been happier than EVER knowing how much her friends have helped her.”

Residing in Branson, Missouri but originally from Marked Tree, Arkansas, Collins fought three times for Bellator MMA between 2016 and 2017, then moved to LFA. Her last fight came over a year ago, at LFA 42. Over the course of her career, Collins, nicknamed ‘Red Dragon,’ shared the cage with the likes of Bruna Vargas, Shannon Sinn, Jamie Thorton, Emily Ducote, and others. She also had a lengthy amateur career, dating back to 2011.

Katy Collins had turned 32 years old earlier this month, and leaves behind two daughters.
