Jake Paul was expected to walk away from the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas on Friday with a victory over 58-year old Mike Tyson.

While the vast majority of fans were hoping that “Iron” Mike would turn back to clock for just one night, one round, even just one minute or less for a knockout blow, father time is undefeated for a reason. Paul, 30 years younger than his latest opponent, was expected to have the edge in speed, stamina, chin, just about everything outside of, perhaps, power.

Tyson had not competed since an exhibition contest against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. Though no winner was declared, most had Tyson getting his hand raised – but Jones, like Mike Tyson, was already in his 50s.

After an extended intro, walkouts and introductions, it was just past midnight on the East Coast when Mike Tyson entered his first sanctioned fight in decades. “Iron” Mike landed an overhand right early, and backed Paul into the ropes, forcing the younger man to clinch up. That appeared to be part of Paul’s game plan early on – clinch up, and let the ref sort things out. Paul did have his right hand in his back pocket, and uncorked that more than once, as well as his jab. Tyson might have laid claim to the first round.

Round two (with two minute rounds in effect, the first had flown by) saw Tyson come forward, doubling up on his left. Paul went to the body with his right. The speed difference was clear as day even just three minutes into the fight; Tyson at times looked like he was in slow motion compared to Paul. That didn’t stop the crowd from starting a “Tyson” chant. Little action in the second frame, which Paul likely took.

Mike Tyson landed a left to open round three, starting the round hot. Paul answered back with a hook, hurting Tyson. Another left hook landed for Paul. And another. Jake Paul landed one more left hand at the end of the round, but held up, opting not to turn up the heat on Tyson. Overall, a horrible round for Mike Tyson.

Jake Paul danced around Tyson in round four, far lighter on his feet. Paul went to the body, and found more success with his left hook. Tyson tried a little lateral movement, but overall, round four had a distinct lack of action from both men.

Round five saw Tyson land a left hand in the back half of the round. Mike displayed better movement through the first minute, but didn’t land anything of note other than the left. Paul connected with a right late, and Tyson fired a left at the bell.

Following the fifth, and more than halfway into the eight-round fight, Tyson’s corner advised him that they couldn’t wait any longer to get going. At best, Tyson had won the first, but Paul more than likely had taken the next four frames. Round six saw Paul jab to the body and head, with Tyson struggling to find a way inside. Again, not a ton of action, and if anything, it seemed as if Paul might be showing some restraint.

Tyson opened round seven with a connection. Not anything fight-changing, but at least a sign of life. The rest of the round was Jake Paul using his range and length well, connecting repeatedly as Tyson struggled to come forward. The former heavyweight champ took a massive breath back on his stool ahead of the final round.

With two minutes to somehow pull out a win, the deck was stacked against Mike Tyson. Paul’s left hook continued to be a threat. Tyson continued to struggle to find an entry. Paul jabbed, keeping Tyson at bay. A right hand clipped Mike. Nothing serious. After the 10 second clapper, Paul actually bowed to the heavyweight legend, but there was no question as to the winner: Jake Paul’s pocketbook, and father time. A fight that didn’t need to happen played out as expected, with the silver lining being that Tyson suffered no permanent damage.

Official Result: Jake Paul def. Mike Tyson by unanimous decision (80-72, 79-73, 79-73)

Youtube content creator turned boxer Jake Paul and heavyweight legend/former champion “Iron” Mike Tyson faced off in perhaps the biggest boxing circus in years on Friday, in a live streamed spectacle on Netflix.

The bout that no one outside of Paul (and clearly Tyson, who no doubt will collect a hefty payday for his efforts) had asked for had fight fans screaming “elder abuse,” what with Tyson a ripe old 58, and Paul 31 years his junior at 27. That mattered not to Netflix, who proved once again to have more money than common sense in broadcasting the fight, set for the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

Not to mention, when an ulcer fells your opponent ahead of the original date, maybe it’s time to fight someone younger.

In Paul’s dubious boxing career, his bread and butter has been beating older, sometimes extremely older opponents, and opposition not known traditionally as boxers. While a 10-1 record might look decent on paper, seven of Paul’s opponents were either debuting or had losing records when he faced them. His toughest test, the 8-0 Tommy Fury, earned a decision win, serving up the first loss of Paul’s career. For those not aware, Fury, the younger brother of heavyweight great Tyson Fury, has a record more padded than most bras.

Ben Askren (off hip surgery, and known for his wrestling), 47-year old Anderson Silva, and now Tyson make it easy to question how serious Paul is about boxing, versus cashing in while he can.

That said, legitimate boxing action on Friday includes Amanda Serrano looking to claim Katie Taylor’s undisputed super lightweight crown.

With Mike Tyson having suffered an ulcer flareup recently – exactly the sort of malady you would expect a man of his age to endure – his controversial boxing match with Youtube’s Jake Paul has shifted to a new date.

On Friday, Netflix, who will broadcast what is arguably the most unnecessary boxing match of all time on their streaming platform, announced that the fight has shifted to November 15. As with its original date, the event will be free for Netflix subscribers.

The card will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. A much more anticipated fight, the co-main event featuring Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor, will remain on the broadcast.

In a statement provided to media outlets as reported by ESPN last month, following a medical emergency on a flight from Los Angles to Miami in late May, Tyson was advised to limit his training temporarily.

“During a follow up consultation on Thursday with medical professionals on his recent ulcer flare up, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal to light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations,” read an official statement on the matter.

Mike Tyson will be 58-years old by the time the match with Jake Paul rolls around. His last action came in an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr. The fight was scored a draw, though the popular consensus was that Tyson had done enough to win. Still, that came in 2020, against a man far closer to his age. Paul, 27, is 30 years younger, and has been competing regularly, albeit against questionable competition including older, undersized opponents, many of whom were retired or aged mixed martial artists rather than boxers.

Last year, Paul signed with the PFL, with his MMA debut originally expected for late 2024, though the shift in timeframe for this wholly unnecessary spectacle with Tyson has likely pushed that back even further.

Till will be competing against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (53-6-1) on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card at AT&T stadium in Arlington Texas on July 20th. The bout is scheduled for six rounds at cruiserweight (190lbs).

Ariel Helwani was the first to break the news on Wednesday morning.

The news comes over a year since Darren requested to be released by the UFC back in March of 2023. With Till teasing on social media writing, “I’m not going anywhere, got big plans to execute & I’ll be back.”

Till, who has struggled mightily since challenging Tyron Woodley for the belt back in 2018, lost four of his following five fights. The 31-year-old has not fought in the UFC since being finished by the current UFC middleweight champion, Dricus Du Plessis, in December of 2022.

“I’m very happy to be a part of this event.” Till said in a press release per ESPN’s Andreas Hale, “Paul vs. Tyson is going to be one of the biggest events of our generation, and to make my professional boxing debut on it is brilliant.”

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is a former WBC middleweight champion and the son of a legend in boxing, Julio Cesar Chavez. Chavez Jr. notably competed against the former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in 2021, losing a split decision. The 38-year-old has not fought since December of 2021 when he defeated David Zegarra via unanimous decision.

“I’m excited to return to the ring after some time off, and I’m motivated and eager to reestablish myself as one of the greats” Chavez Jr. stated.

With the addition of this fight, there are now 4 announced boxing matches for the Paul vs. Tyson card:

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano

Ashton Sylve vs. Floyd Schofield

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Darren Till
