Heavyweight and women’s featherweight champions would be crowned at PFL Lyon on Saturday, as a the Professional Fighters League returned to France and wrapped up the PFL Europe season as well.

Headlining the card, Vadim Nemkov, former Bellator light heavyweight champ, looking to claim a new title in a second weight class against Renan Ferreira. For those not keeping score, the belt Ferreira had fought for against Francis Ngannou over a year ago had been a “Super-Fights” title; the title on the line when Ferreira, a former PFL Global tournament champ, faced Bellator heavyweight champ Ryan Bader in February 2024 had similarly been of the “Super-Fights” vein.

Which is why Cris Cyborg was facing Sara Collins for the inaugural PFL women’s featherweight championship at PFL Lyon, despite having defeated Larissa Pacheco a year ago.

Where to Watch PFL Lyon

Vadim Nemkov and Cris Cyborg will both be in action in Lyon, giving optimism to what the PFL will bring in 2026.

Following nearly a year of inaction, Vadim Nemkov returns at PFL Lyon with a new deal with the promotion, and it has many speculating about the plans the promotion has for the future. The most obvious: was he re-signed with the intention of creating a bout with the now enigmatic Francis Ngannou? The former Bellator light heavyweight champion rides a 13-fight win streak and his highlights go back even further to his days as part of RIZIN in Japan. If “The Predator” is going to be enticed to return by anyone on the PFL roster, it feels like Nemkov would be the top choice.

“I want to become the Heavyweight champion and defend it for a LONG TIME”

December 13th is about 𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗖𝗬 for Vadim Nemkov as the PFL Heavyweight World Title is on the line against Renan Ferreira! #PFLLyon | Sat Dec 13th | LDLC Arena, Lyon | 📺LIVE on the ESPN app | 🎟️ ON… pic.twitter.com/TonLhnOH8W

— PFL (@PFLMMA) December 1, 2025

Of course, that is a big assumption. Opposing Nemkov is the 2023 heavyweight champion who has wreaked havoc in the promotion over the past several year: Renan Ferreira. “El Problema” hasn’t been seen since last year and the time away has undoubtedly fueled a desire to return to form when he returns to the cage. Despite Nemkov’s abilities on the feet, one expects a striker vs grappler matchup between two of the most destructive forces the promotion has to offer.

In the co-headliner, a living legend in Cris “Cyborg” Justino returns to mixed martial arts following speculation on whether or not she would step into the cage again. In her last MMA bout, she outlasted 2023 season champion Larissa Pacheco. In the eyes of many, the victory felt like the final feather to add to the cap of the Brazilian legend as far as mixed martial arts is concerned. To add to the speculation, Justino stopped three opponents in boxing earlier this year which had many wondering if she was angling for a big fight in the squared circle.

Instead, Justino returns to show she is still in top form as she grants undefeated underdog Sara Collins a chance to record a seminal victory in her career. A fellow Bellator veteran, Collins had two fights in the promotion including one that saw her defeat former title challenger Sinead Kavanagh. Collins has had one appearance since the acquisition and she made the most of it, stopping the more highly regarded Leah McCourt with a first round submission. That victory now sets up the Australian contender for her biggest career opportunity by a mile.

With not one but two titles on the line, the PFL closes out the year by setting up more potential matchups going into 2026 where it has already been announced that the promotion will have top talent back in action in the first quarter of the year.

The Professional Fighters League has announced a pair of massive title fights for December, as it returns to Lyon, France.

In the PFL Lyon main event, heavyweights Renan Ferreira and Vadim Nemkov will collide, looking to claim the PFL heavyweight title that currently sits vacant (Francis Ngannou, who defeated Ferreira last year, won the promotion’s Super-Fights title, separate from the league’s regular champions).

In the night’s co-main event, meanwhile, legendary women’s featherweight star Cris Cyborg returns to collect yet another title, taking on undefeated Australian Sara Collins.

Like Ngannou, Cyborg previously captured one of the PFL’s super-fights titles when she defeated Larissa Pacheco at PFL’s Battle of the Giants card last October. The Brazilian star was won gold in Strikeforce, Bellator MMA, the UFC, and Invicta FC, and with a record of 28-2, 1NC, will have a massive experience advantage over Collins, who sits at 6-0.

Fellow ex-Bellator MMA champ Nemkov (18-2, 1NC) is looking to conquer a second weight class. After capturing gold at light heavyweight under the Bellator banner, Nemkov shifted north to heavyweight in 2024 and has won his first two fights there, defeating ex-PFL Global champ Bruno Cappelozza and UFC vet Tim Johnson. Both bouts saw Nemkov secure submissions.

Ferreira (13-4, 3NC), prior to the loss to Ngannou, had been sitting on a four-fight win streak including a victory over ex-Bellator double champ Ryan Bader.

PFL Lyon is set to take place at the LDLC Arena in Lyon, France on December 13, 2025. No other bouts have been announced for the card thus far.

It wasn’t a barn burner, nor a firefight, but the PFL Battle of the Giants co-main event between Cris Cyborg and Larissa Pacheco was both entertaining, and a little surprising.

Fearsome Cyborg, the Bellator MMA women’s featherweight champ, shooting takedowns and grappling? Pacheco looking like the fresher fighter, cool under fire at all times and able to hold her own in the stand-up?

In the opening round, it was Cris Cyborg in the driver’s seat along the fence. She tied up Pacheco; they then fired heavy shots off the break. Pacheco was bloodied by the ear.

As the round went on, Cyborg landed a takedown, and looked to secure a Von Flue choke. Pacheco survived, and back on the feet, the pair exchanged fire. Both women were holding their own and Pacheco appeared to be that rare specimen who could handle the fearsome Cyborg’s power. The Bellator champ then shot for another takedown, but Pacheco stayed upright, with her back to the fence. That said, off the break, Cyborg fired a left. Another takedown attempt from Cyborg saw her shoot into a guillotine, deep into it — but Pacheco didn’t quite have it, and was at risk of burning out her arm.

Cyborg would escape, and finish the round on top in a very competitive opening frame. The takedown combined with a glancing head kick may have won her the round.

Round two had Cyborg showing damage, a rare sight. She changed levels early, only for Pacheco to pull back. Cyborg fired a head kick, but didn’t have much on it. A big swing fanned for Cyborg as Pacheco retreated.

At the midway mark, Cyborg timed a takedown perfectly, and planted Pacheco on her back. The pair were along the fence, with Cyborg on top in half guard. Pacheco tried to frame Cyborg off with an elbow across the neck. The Bellator champ looked to land the odd punch and create some space to work; that appeared easier said than done. With 30 seconds or so on the clock the ref stood them up, with little of note from there as they headed to the third. Likely another round for Cris Cyborg.

Cyborg used a little more movement and stayed outside in the third, leading to Pacheco standing still, raising her arms, and suggesting that her fellow Brazilian didn’t want to engage. Pacheco fired a leg kick when they did come together. In this round, when the grappling came into play, it was Pacheco who was able to get on top. Cyborg was against the fence, Pacheco in her guard, with about two minutes on the clock. Cyborg closed her guard and tried to tie up Pacheco, clearly having accepted the position. Pacheco finished the round on top.

Round four saw Cyborg looking a step slower. She had another trail of blood trickling down one side of her face, and had eaten a number of Pacheco leg kicks. Those kicks were money for Larissa Pacheco, who also found success countering Cyborg with her right hand. Pacheco looked fresh as a daisy in comparison to Cyborg, but an overhand right from the legend had Pacheco retreating, and Cyborg on the attack! Pacheco, covering up, survived. Moments later, Pacheco countered a Cyborg kick with that laser-accurate right hand. Cyborg connected with her left in response.

The fifth and final frame had Cris Cyborg and Larissa Pacheco potentially tied. If that was the case, it was going to come down to who had more in the tank. Perhaps with that in mind, Cyborg came out swinging. Like a mirror image, however, Pacheco did as well, at the exact same time, with both just missing. Pacheco then fell back on her low kicks, but Cyborg had a big moment, unleashing a combo and bullying Pacheco back.

Pacheco went after a desperation takedown but survived, and they got back to the feet. Less than half a round remained. Again, Cyborg took some big swings. The right hand was uncorked again in the final 90 seconds of the fight, Cyborg looking to put Pacheco to sleep. Another right followed moments later, and Pacheco was forced to back off. Cyborg then landed a final takedown, nearly rolling through it; she backed off to let Pacheco out, and they both took a few final swings prior to the bell.

In the end, all four judges sided with Cris Cyborg, though the fight was not without its adversity. Pacheco, in fact, arguably gave Cyborg her toughest test since Amanda Nunes knocked her out during her UFC run. Still, it was Cyborg making history, adding a PFL SuperFight title to her Invicta, Strikeforce, Bellator, and UFC belts.

Official Result: Cris Cyborg def. Larissa Pacheco by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46)

The Professional Fighters League hosted its biggest card to date on Saturday, with PFL Battle of the Giants: Brace for Impact kicking off the league’s super fights era.

The card happened to feature the debut of lineal heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, a massive free agent signing for the PFL. Yet after inking a deal with the company over a year ago, Ngannou strayed from his MMA path. Instead, he moved to boxing, knocking down Tyson Fury in a split decision loss that he almost certainly should have won, then being knocked out by Anthony Joshua this past March.

Personal tragedy struck after that, with the death of young son Kobe. Ngannou found refuge in the gym, however, and has committed to his return at PFL Battle of the Giants and a few more years of fighting beyond that.

It will be Renan Ferreira welcoming “The Predator” back to the cage. Less high-profile, but a decent threat, the 2023 PFL heavyweight champ has notable wins over Ryan Bader (the Bellator heavyweight champ, during the PFL vs. Bellator Champions card earlier this year) and UFC alums Jared Vanderaa and Maurice Greene.

Ferreira has not faced the same caliber of competition as Ngannou, that much is clear. But with x-factors like Ngannou’s time away from the cage, and the Brazilian’s black belt, the fight is not the blowout on paper it might have been otherwise.

In the co-main event, Bellator women’s featherweight champ Cris Cyborg finally returns to action, going head-to-head with Larissa Pacheco, the two-time, two-division PFL champ at lightweight and featherweight. Also known as the first woman to defeat Kayla Harrison, Pacheco, a former UFC bantamweight, has her work cut out for her against the legendary Cyborg. Prior to those two “super fights” (with special belts on the line), Bellator middleweight champ Johnny Eblen entered a rematch with Fabian Edwards.

Where to Watch PFL Battle of the Giants

The gigantic PFL main event set for the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this weekend is official.

On Friday, both Francis Ngannou and Renan Ferreira successfully made weight for PFL’s Battle of the Giants, with Ngannou coming in just shy of 257 pounds, while Ferreira was a half pound over 261. The fight marks both Ngannou’s return to MMA after a stint in boxing, and his PFL debut, after signing with the promotion as a free agent following another battle – that one with the UFC.

Having waited out his contract, which expired due to a sunset clause, Ngannou was able to secure the sort of money most fighters never see. He’ll make millions for his PFL debut, but as a show that he’s serious about helping fellow fighters, he also secured a $2 million dollar purse for his opponent.

Not too shabby. Also on the card is the return of Cris Cyborg, the Bellator women’s featherweight champ, facing off with two-time, two-division PFL champion Larissa Pacheco. And after being postponed weeks ago, the Bellator middleweight title fight between Johnny Eblen and Fabian Edwards also lands on PFL Battle of the Giants, which seems to be made up of more Bellator stars than it is PFL fighters.

Results from Friday’s weigh-in can be found below; the ceremonial weigh-in video gets underway at 11:30AM ET, 8:30AM PT.

Leading the recently announced bouts is a featherweight contest between Husein Kadimagomaev (11-1) from Switzerland against Zafar Mohsen (13-4) of Germany who will be rounding out the pay-per-view portion of the card. Kadimagomaev has built a strong record overseas where he has two appearances under the BRAVE banner and has trained with current UFC middleweight star Khamzat Chimaev. Mohsen shares a similar path and enters the bout having finished his last three opponents.

Kadimagomaev and Mohsen join a pay-per-view lineup of pivotal bouts that includes the high stakes co-main event between reigning Bellator champion Cris Cyborg against two-time PFL tournament champion Larissa Pacheco, the middleweight rematch between Bellator champion Johnny Eblen and Fabian Edwards, and a lightweight bout between former Bellator champion AJ McKee and former Cage Warriors champion Paul Hughes.

Leading preliminary action will be former Bellator bantamweight champion Raufeon Stots who takes on Marcos Breno. Stots is looking to continue building momentum back toward the title after notching his second victory over Danny Sabatello earlier this year. Brazil’s Breno will be making his second appearance for the Bellator brand and first under the new iteration run by the PFL. Breno has a previous fight with LFA but has been relatively inactive with only four fights in the past three years. The two were previously targeted for a fight at the Bellator event earlier this month before it was scratched from the card.

The rest of preliminary card bouts that were announced will see up-and-coming talent from the Middle East and Europe in action with lightweight Makkasharip (15-4) taking on Derek Sanders (9-4), two featherweight bouts Ibragim Ibragimov (7-0) vs Nacho Campos (5-0) and Youssef Al Housani (4-1) vs Taha Bendaoud (3-0), and a middleweight fight Mostafa Nada (9-3) vs Ahmed Sami (11-4-0-1).

The event is set to take place in Mayadeen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and will be broadcast on pay-per-view in the United States.

The Full Battle of Giants: Brace for Impact Fight Card:

Heavyweight Main Event: Francis Ngannou (17-3) vs. Renan Ferreira (13-3, 3 NC)

The PFL has finally announced the launch of its Super Fight series, and the return of heavyweight Francis Ngannou.

“The Predator” signed with the Professional Fighters last year, but has competed twice in boxing, against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, with a return date for MMA up in the air until recently. However, on Wednesday, league officials announced via press release that Ngannou (17-3) would face off with 2023 PFL heavyweight champ Renan Ferreira (13-3, 3NC) at “Battle of the Giants: Brace for Impact” on October 19, 2024.

Serving as co-headliner will be Bellator MMA women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg (27-2, 1NC), who will take on PFL two-division champ (2022 & 2023, lightweight and featherweight) Larissa Pacheco (23-4) – the first and only woman to defeat Kayla Harrison.

The event will air live on PPV in the U.S. via ESPN+, and DAZN elsewhere. Special “Super Fighters” championship belts will be on the line in both the main and co-main event.

“The Professional Fighters League is excited to announce the highly anticipated return of superstar, undisputed Heavyweight Champion, Francis Ngannou, to MMA in The Battle of the Giants against the most-feared Heavyweight, 6-foot-8 2023 PFL Heavyweight Champion Renan Ferreira in the biggest world title fight of the year,” PFL CEO Peter Murray said via Wednesday’s press release. “On October 19 live on ESPN+ in the U.S. and DAZN worldwide, MMA fans around the world will witness a true battle of the greatest fighters on the planet competing for the PFL Super Fights Championship Belts.”

Ngannou last competed in MMA in January of 2022, when he defeated Ciryl Gane in a title unification bout under the UFC banner. He then found himself embroiled in a contract dispute, exiting the promotion a year later after being unable to come to terms on a new deal. He signed with the PFL later that year.

Cyborg, like Ngannou, has dabbled in boxing of late, last defending her Bellator title against Cat Zingano in October 2023. She has been vocal about pushing for a new date, which she finally has. Neither her opponent, Pacheco, nor Ngannou’s in Ferreira come as any surprise. But while Ferreira defeated Ryan Bader at the PFL Champions vs. Bellator Champions card earlier this year, Pacheco has been dormant since winning the league’s featherweight title last year.

No venue or location has been announced for Battle of the Giants: Brace for Impact.

Two Brazilian MMA legends took to the ring on Saturday, June 15 in a pair of boxing spectacles that resulted in a win for one, and a strong showing for the other.

Cris Cyborg and Anderson Silva both had long reigns in their respective weight classes in MMA- Cyborg, in fact, continues to serve as the Bellator MMA women’s featherweight champ – and both have dabbled in boxing in recent years.

On Saturday, Cyborg put down an out-gunned Aria Wild at the O2 Arena in London, England, dropping Wild with a nasty right hand that capped off a thunderous combination. Wild appeared out of her depth, and learned what many of Cyborg’s MMA adversaries had in years past: the Brazilian’s power was no joke.

Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen 3, if you wanted to connect it to their pair of UFC contests, rather bizarrely aired only in Brazil. Billed as “The Grand Finale of Anderson Silva,” the fight went the distance across five rounds.

Promoted by brewer Spaten, the card received little notice outside Silva’s home country, with fight fans questioning late Saturday where they could even watch it.

The exhibition match started with Sonnen coming on strong, going to the body and working his jab, with Silva keeping his back to the ropes, countering. “The Spider” was more selective in his attacks, compared to Sonnen’s volume. Late in the round, Silva complained about a punch to the back of the head, with the ref warning Sonnen, though the blow was purely accidental.

More often than not, Sonnen was hitting air with his attacks, Silva being the faster fighter. Sonnen’s form was a little less tight in the second, with the pace already seeming to get to him a little. In the third, Silva began to double up on his jab, hitting the mark repeatedly. That led to some showboating by the former middleweight champ in the fourth; Sonnen would tie things up, but wrestling his way to victory wasn’t an option here. Sonnen would go down that round, but it was more of a push, with Chael rolling back then getting straight up to his feet.

The fifth and final round saw Sonnen bloodied around the nose, then shell up at the final bell as Anderson Silva let his hands go. There was little question that Silva was the “winner,” though the fight amounted to an active sparring match. Exactly what an exhibition bout between two aged warriors should be, frankly.

No scores were announced, given the exhibition nature of the contest at Spaten Fight Night. Whether it is truly the “Grand Finale” of Anderson Silva remains to be seen.

Cris Cyborg didn’t get to box in Green Bay as planned last month, but she’s landed one more match in the ring prior to her return to MMA.

Cyborg (27-2, 1NC MMA, 3-0 boxing) last competed in October 2023 in MMA, defeating Cat Zingano by TKO inside of a round. This past January, she switched modes to boxing, knocking out Kelsey Wickstrum, also in the first round. With Cyborg’s next bout under the PFL/Bellator banner still a question mark, that led to the Green Bay date, which saw multiple opponents fall through before being cancelled entirely.

Now, Cyborg tells Cageside Press that another boxing match is possible (and is now booked) prior to a September Champion vs. Champion fight with PFL’s Larissa Pacheco.

“Right now I’m ready, I’m healthy, I want to fight. I’ve been training every day. I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to fight. They [PFL] say a lot of different dates. I accepted a fight with Kayla Harrison, it was supposed to be in February but it didn’t happen. You guys know the reason already, because she signed with UFC. And then they said maybe I’m going to fight Larissa Pacheco in September,” Cyborg said back at LFA 184 in Commerce, CA. “I’m ready. I’m ready, I’m healthy. Maybe I’m going to fight one boxing fight before MMA.”

She has done just that. Cyborg will box on June 15 in London, she announced shortly after our interview. The event is set to take place at The Indigo at the O2. Her opponent has yet to be revealed.

The Bellator women’s featherweight champion also addressed comments my Mirella Vargas, who will headline PFL Europe 2 later this week, and said she’d love to share a card with her fellow Brazilian some day.

“For me it’s amazing, it fills my heart I love it. When I started fighting I didn’t just fight for myself, I fought for women’s MMA, for the sport to grow,” said Cyborg, asked about the feeling evoked from seeing younger athletes eager to fight alongside her. “You see how much growth there is. I feel very thankful to be fighting in this moment, women’s MMA has grown so much. It’s going to be a pleasure to fight on the same card.”

PFL head honcho Donn Davis has previously suggested that a September date with Pacheco is in the cards.
