Legacy Fighting Alliance returned to Phoenix, AZ on Friday for LFA 228, where two of the promotion’s best flyweights would top the marquee.

On Friday the 13th, Adrian Garcia and Christian Natividad would be looking for a massacre. A perfect 8-0 as a pro with his entire career coming under the LFA banner, Natividad was no doubt hoping to follow the footsteps of brother Kevin, who had landed in the UFC in 2020.

For his part, Garcia was 3-1 under the LFA banner. The former Combate Global and Titan FC fighter’s only loss in the company had come to another high level prospect, Phumi Nkuta.

Both Tanner and Cyr sported identical 8-1 records to start the night, with Michael Cyr having earned a couple of titles in smaller promotions since his last walk to the LFA cage.

Kevin Natividad and brother Christian, meanwhile, were looking for a way into, or in Kevin’s case back to, the UFC. Kevin had gone 0-3 in his first stint with the big show, and was g for the first time since a loss Ricky Turcios in 2022, Natividad’s final UFC bout (several match-ups had fallen through in the ensuing years). Brother Christian, however, was a perect 7-0 with all seven victories coming under the LFA banner.

When the UFC sent out the casting call for flyweights this past season, Christian Natividad was originally interested. However, after chatting with his coaches and management about it, they decided to wait for the summer and a chance at Dana White’s Contender Series. Unfortunately for him, that call simply did not come.

With some reflection, Natividad has come to terms with the reality and is ready to do something about it.

“I’m honestly pretty disappointed that I didn’t get called up to the Contenders [Series], but I know what the reason. Even though I’m on a seven-fight win streak as a professional, I need a little bit more finishes,” Natividad said. “I need to show a little bit more aggression in these fights. People love to watch me fight, you know I bring a violent style, but I just need to put these people out.”

While some fighters talk about fighting differently, Natividad decided to make it happen. He hopes a cross-town camp change sparks something within him.

“Pretty much all throughout my career – I’m not just a competitor. I’m a winner, but it’s also about the way that you win and that’s a new focus that I have here now,” he shared. “I actually just switch camps. I’ve moved over to the [MMA] Lab here and I’m here in Phoenix. I’m hoping with this change, I’m able to make some changes and adjustments to my fight style.”

The change to work with John Crouch is not one that he takes lightly. He recognizes that he had a good thing over at Fight Ready MMA, but sometimes we just need to shake things up a bit.

“I just needed a change and it’s nothing against the coaches over at Fight Ready, nothing against the teammates over at Fight Ready. I love all those guys, they great coaches, great teammates and I love the culture over there,” Natividad said. “I just needed a switch. I’ve had five fights as a professional over at Fight Ready and it just wasn’t wasn’t getting me the call that I needed, and it’s it’s nothing against them again. It’s just I needed something different.”

With LFA 220 just around the corner, it’s time for the fruits of those labors to pay off. Although he hasn’t been great at predictions in the past, Natividad knows what he needs here.

“I’ve been wrong on a lot of my predictions,” he said with a laugh. “I’ve been right in the sense as far as I win the fight because I every time I made a prediction I’ve won all those fights, but let’s finish this guy.”

He’ll get a chance to do just that at LFA 220 in the co-main event against Jostin Quilca. The fight card begins at 8:30pm and airs on UFC Fight Pass.

The Natividad brothers are set to make it a family affair at LFA 220 this Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona, as both Kevin and Christian step into the spotlight on home turf.

In a night that could redefine their paths, the duo looks to deliver statement performances in front of a hometown crowd eager to see them rise.

For Kevin (9-4) Saturday marks a long-awaited return to action in his first fight since 2022. A string of injuries, opponent withdrawals, and failed bookings have delayed his comeback, but he now gets his moment at LFA 220 against Ryan Kuse.

“I’ve been trying to fight. I was booked to fight in 2023 a couple times so it was kind of out of my control for the most part. If I didn’t get injured, my opponents would pull out. There would always be something,” Kevin told Cageside Press.

“I’m coming back because, that’s the main thing, I’m not done fighting yet. I want to continue fighting.”

His younger brother Christian (7-0) isn’t just preparing for his own fight, he’s drawing strength from his brother being on the same card. The siblings have shared this stage before, and history suggests it brings out the best in both of them. Fighting side by side in their hometown adds an extra layer of motivation.

“I’m more so excited than nervous, you know, usually when he’s fighting just him on a card, typically I’m pretty nervous, but we feed off each other,” Christian said.

“We’ve fought on two MMA cards together, then we also competed on Fight2Win (a Jiu-Jitsu promotion) together, and we’ve always came out on top. We feed off that same energy so come Saturday I’m going to be super excited to have him on the card with me.”

Kevin didn’t hold back when asked about his brother’s matchup, offering a confident breakdown of why he believes Christian will dominate on fight night. Having seen firsthand the evolution of his brother’s game, Kevin has no doubt that Christian’s skill set is being underestimated. To him, the outcome feels inevitable.

“I just don’t think that guy is going to be able to hang with Christian. The pressure, the grappling, the striking. I know this guy’s more like a Jiu-Jitsu-ish kind of guy. Everyone kind of forgets that Christian’s a really good grappler too,” Kevin said.

“And that blows my mind. D1 college wrestler (Arizona State) come on. He competed at brown belt as a purple belt in the Fight2Win pro thing almost ten years ago and he won that pretty one-sided. After the first round, if that guy doesn’t quit on the stool, I don’t see it going past the second.”

Christian also returned the praise, making it clear the respect and belief goes both ways. He’s been right there for every step of Kevin’s preparation and knows exactly what has gone into this comeback. From the outside, fans see results, but Christian has seen the grind.

“I’ve been there a part of pretty much all of his camps. I see the work that he’s put in throughout drilling, sparring, even strength and conditioning. So I see all the work that he puts in, and this guy trains hard,” Christian said.

“It’s hard to put a list of people that train harder than my brother. Come fight day I’m pretty sure he’s going to come out, give it his all, and we’ll see what happens.”

A pair of title fights sit on top of the card. First, Mackenzie Dern squares off with Virna Jandiroba for the vacant strawweight belt. Then we get the big boys with the heavyweights throwing down. Tom Aspinall will look to hold down the fort against Cyril Gane. We’ll break down those fights as well as some of our other favorite fights on the main card. Plus, as always, we’re hitting you with an underdog and a plus-money parlay that we think will make your wallet fat this weekend.
Christian Natividad Interview (21:18)

Closing out this UFC 321 edition of TTP is our interview with LFA flyweight, Christian Natividad. He was looking for a big spot on the Contender Series this fall, which didn’t come to fruition. After being disappointed with that, he looked to make some changes to make it to that next step. Natividad discusses one of those changes, which was in training camps for his upcoming fight. After a long time at Fight Ready, he has made the switch over to the MMA Lab for this weekend’s fight. We’ll see the fruits of those labors at LFA 220. He fights Jostin Quilca in the co-main event of the card.

Nobody loves a scrap more than LFA flyweight Christian Natividad who has a banger of a bout coming up this Friday night at LFA 210 against Jose Sandoval that he hopes leads to a call up to the big show.

Natividad (6-0) hails from Hawaii and represents the islands and the Philippines, but has made the desert of Arizona his home. Arizona has quickly become a powerhouse of MMA talent in the last 10 years with some of the more premium gyms established there.

“I went from paradise to the desert dude. It’s all because of college and I think college is the perfect excuse to get out of Hawaii,” Natividad told Cageside Press.

“A lot of times, if you don’t go to college, you get stuck in Hawaii. It’s home. Who likes to leave home? Went to college in Oregon at first. I just wanted something a little bit different and Arizona’s the place I wanted to be because of ASU (Arizona State University). Brought my brother with me and I love it here.”

His brother? None other than former UFC bantamweight Kevin Natividad. Kevin fought the likes of Ricky Turcios, Batgerel Danaa and Miles Johns during his UFC run. He’s been an invaluable source of support and guidance for Christian.

“There’s one thing about having a brother that’s also your training partner, that’s also your coach, you know. Also your best friend,” Christian said.

Training at two of the biggest gyms in Arizona, Fight Ready in Scottsdale, and Arizona Combat Sports in Tempe, Natividad has found the right mix for himself.

“Arizona Combat Sports that’s my first MMA gym. When I first moved over here that’s when I started training MMA and it was AZ Combat. AZ Combat’s where I get like my meat and potatoes,” he said.

“(Fight Ready) I love it here. It’s a good gym, lots of different bodies. The one thing I like the most here is the knowledge from the coaches. There’s so much knowledge that’s so hard to take everything in. You have to be really picky and pick the things that you like. Anything that you want to learn the coaches probably have some kind of knowledge within it.”

All that knowledge will come in handy when Natividad faces the very tough and very game Sandoval in Louisville, Kentucky at LFA 210 on June 13. Sandoval comes in with a record of 7-3, a very heavy Mexican boxing style, and zero fear of getting into a scrap.

It’s exactly what Natividad has been hoping for.

“So, I kid you not, my fight that was supposed to happen in March, that fight ended up getting canceled. It got canceled far out, four or five weeks out of the fight, I thought I was going to fight a replacement. Unfortunately we didn’t get one,” said Natividad.

“The one person that I was hoping was going to take the fight or they were going to offer me was Jose Sandoval.”

Talk about manifesting what you want. It may have taken a while longer, but the matchup finally materialized for LFA 210.

“That didn’t happen. When they offered me Jose Sandoval (for LFA 210) I was like, ‘This is the guy that I wanted to fight months ago’ so turned out perfectly,” he said.

“It’s going to be a good one man. I’m so excited. He’s tough. He’s wild on the feet, he’s savvy on the ground, he’s well-rounded. I’m very excited to fight this guy.”

A victory over Sandoval gets Natividad to 7-0. A record like that, with an impressive win at LFA 210, might catch the eyes of someone in Las Vegas.

“Dana White! Sean Shelby! I’m not looking for a straight into the UFC. I know that’s hard to come around these days,” he said with a smile.

“I just want a job interview. Contender Series job interview, you know. Bring my resume. I’ll show up in the nicest suit that I could and show them what I’m about.”

Watch the entire interview with Christian Natividad above. He faces Jose Sandoval in the co-main event at LFA 210 on June 13 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Kicking off this edition of TTP is our interview with LFA flyweight, Cheyanne Bowers. Bowers talks about her close split decision loss in the LFA title unification bout this past January. She talks about how she felt about that decision and what she managed to take away following the loss to Shannon Clark. Now ready to get back after it, she takes center stage at LFA 207. She fights Elizabeth Rodriguez at this weekend’s event – and she takes the time to breakdown the fight with us.

However, while they are off this week, we never sleep. The break gives us a chance to bring back the Combat Countdown. We looked at those on the up-and-up who may just have what it takes. And as always, if you like or hate our list, be sure to hit us up on Twitter (@TopTurtleMMA) and let us know how you feel.
Christian Natividad Interview (27:55)

Closing out this edition of TTP is our interview with LFA flyweight, Christian Natividad. Natvidad was supposed to fight on the same card as Cheyanne Bowers this weekend, but unfortunately his opponent dropped out of the fight and left him without a dance partner. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t some great tidbits in this interview. Natividad talks about having the option to be on The Ultimate Fighter and why his coach told him not to do it. He’s hoping for one more fight soon and that Contender Series call.

At 5-0, with all five fights coming in LFA, it’s reasonable to say that Christian Natividad is on the fringe of something big. A win this weekend would give him the kind of resume that gets interest for something like Dana White’s Contender Series. While he’s aware that something big is coming his way, this was not always the way for him. In fact, when he was younger, MMA wasn’t even remotely on his mind.

“Growing up, I never thought I would have ever fought MMA. Some people say – ‘I was born for this’ or ‘as soon as I came out of the womb, I was born a fighter’ – I never thought I would ever fight,” he said. “I thought I was going to be a professional skateboarder. That’s what I wanted to be when I was younger.”

That all changed for him one day thanks to his brother, UFC veteran Kevin Natividad. On his way to a training session, Kevin invited his younger btoher to come work out.

“My brother starting fighting back in 2011… one day he invited me over to the gym to do jiu jitsu, which later evolved into wrestling,” Natividad recalled.

For the moment he stepped into the gym and starting taking training seriously, Natividad not only knew that he was in love, but he knew he was destined for success.

“When I started training MMA, before my first ever amateur fight, I saw myself doing big things,” he shared. “The reason why is because the people that I trained with were at a high level… for me to be working with them, I saw myself doing big things.”

Of course, a lot of that credit goes to Kevin – without him we may have never been able to witness this run from Christian. However, it was more than just getting him to the gym and being a training partner for him.

“[Having him around] is a big part. Without my brother I would have never started fighting MMA,” he said. “He’s one of the best training partners I can get… The best thing about it, other than him being a training partner, he’s a good mentor.”

His next step towards the big show comes on Friday at LFA 196. He fights Devon Jackson on the main card, which starts at 10pm EST on UFC Fight Pass.
