A top female prospect looked to claim a second title at CFFC 129 on Friday, one of two title fights on the Philadelphia card.

In the main event, women’s flyweight champ Fatima Kline was set to capture the vacant 115lb belt when she took on Andressa Romero. Kline, a perfect 5-0 to start the night, had split her career between Invicta FC and CFFC and another win or two would likely land her with a major promotion.

In the CFFC 129 co-main event, former UFC fighter Kyle Daukaus looked to defend his middleweight title opposite Sean Fallon. A win would be the third straight for Daukaus since exiting the UFC, and move him closer to a possible return.

The card also had some local flavor, with CJ LaFragola among those in action.

Welterweight CJ LaFragola is fighting at home in Philadelphia on Super Bowl weekend, and while the Eagles aren’t in the big game this year, he’s still repping Philly colors.

“I know our boys aren’t playing on Super Bowl Sunday, but I got the Kelly Green on,” LaFragola told Cagegside Press in a recent interview. “I made my fight kit Kelly Green, since we’re back in Philly. So repping the brand of course, even if they’re not in the Super Bowl, we always rep, we always ride for our boys.”

“That’s a no-brainer. That’s the backyard,” LaFragola said of his response to fighting on the CFFC 129 card in Philadelphia. And that goes back to his high school wresting days, and what he calls “home bed advantage.”

“No hotel for me, I’m in my own bed. And that’s always been my mantra since high school. When we wrestled states back in the day, home bed advantage,” recalled LaFragola. “States were in Atlantic City, I lived in South Jersey. So I was able to sleep at home, and I felt like that’s always the ultimate advantage. Any time you can sleep in your own bed and compete at the same time, that’s a win-win.”

As far as what he wants to show against Ernesto Zarate this Friday, “I’m looking to show that I’m a mixed martial artist as opposed to maybe a one or two dimensional guy,” said LaFragola, who is hoping to make it to the next level by way of CFFC. “I’m really looking forward to trying to open up a little bit more in this fight, and really trust some of the things I’ve been working on.”

CFFC 129’s co-main event features the return of “The D’arce Knight” Kyle Daukaus, a former UFC talent who now reigns the Cage Fury FC middleweight champ.

His title fight against Sean Fallon almost hit a snag when Daukaus initially missed weight for the fight, but it all worked out in the end.

“Feel good. My scale must have been off a little bit,” Daukaus (13-4, 1NC), who made weight on his second attempt on Thursday, told Cageside Press shortly after weigh-ins.

On the match-up with Fallon, Daukaus, a seven-fight UFC veteran, said that “I feel good. He’s a very good jiu-jitsu guy, so he’s good to test my jiu-jitsu against. I do believe I have an advantage on the feet, so we might take advantage of that. But I’m excited to get in there tomorrow.”

Daukaus does not expect to need all twenty-five minutes in the five-round fight.

“Training camp’s been great. Can’t thank these guys enough for prepping me for tomorrow night for five rounds if I need it. Which, I definitely won’t need it but I’m ready if it goes five.”

The possibility of a UFC return looms as Daukaus has gone 2-0 since his exit from the promotion following a loss to Eryk Anders in 2022. A third straight win, not to mention a title defense on UFC Fight Pass, would go a long way to getting Daukaus another look, but as he put it, there’s no need for extra motivation.

“I’m always motivated to win, and that’s most important. I know if I win I’ll get looked at, so the most important thing for me is winning. Tomorrow night I need to go 1-0 and that’s what I plan on doing.”

That said, in thanking fans for their support, Daukaus did admit to being another step closer to a potential return to the big stage.
