Coming into his fight at Oktagon 86 this weekend, Amiran Gogoladze has leveled up in a big way. With a possible title shot on the line against Ion Surdu, he brought his training to the fight capital of the world to prepare. He feels that it created the best version of himself ahead of the bout.

“I moved to the United States with the help of Meab Dvalishvili. I was living with Merab in his house, and I was training in a Syndicate MMA,” Gogoladze said speaking through a translator. “There were many, many good guys and many, many fighters who have helped me to develop my skills and all the stuff, but mostly I was training with Khalil Rountree Jr., and we were the main training partners for each other, and he helped me to evolve a lot.”

However, it wasn’t just the team at Syndicate MMA that helped him to grow. He travelled around to many places in the city to make sure that he could get the most out of the experience.

“I was training with those guys, and also I was trying different training places in Las Vegas,” he said. “So, physically and mentally, I’m so strong after those days, and I’m more than ready for everything.”

Now in the best shape of his life, Gogoladze looks ahead to his fight with former champion, Ion Surdu. He knows just what’s at stake in this fight and is ready to come take it.

“He’s technically undefeated in the title fights and he lost the belt outside the cage,” Gogoladze said. “So we’re gonna see how how everything goes and also I’m more than ready and more than sure that this is gonna be a number one contender fight. If I win this fight and it goes to the championship fight.”

You can catch his bout against Surdu on the Oktagon 86 main card. The fight card begins at 12:00pm EST and airs on Oktagon.tv this Saturday.

Georgian welterweight Amiran Gogoladze returns to action at Oktagon 47 this weekend, looking for his second straight win and feeling vastly improved as a fighter.

Part of that is a renewed focus on cardio, he told Cageside Press in a recent exclusive interview. “You mentioned biking. If I was spending half an hour on a bike, now I’m spending one hour on a bike,” said Gogoladze (15-3), explaining how he has doubled down in training camp.

“Now I’m dedicated to my cardio. There were many changes in my training. Now I’m getting ready not for a three round fight, but also a five round fight because it’s getting close and closer. This training is helping me a lot.”

Gogoladze is another promising talent coming out of Georgia, alongside the likes of Merab Dvalishvili, Roman Dolidze, Ilia Topuria, Giga Chikadze, and Levan Chokheli. That’s a source of inspiration for the 25-year old.

“It gives me so much motivation, watching those guys, especially Levan last week, to see how he succeeded in the fight, to see his timing, and his striking,” said Gogoladze. Chokheli picked up a win over Sabah Homasi care of a vicious front kick at Bellator 299 in Dublin, Ireland in late September. “I was so excited for him, to see this kind of finish in the fight.”

It’s not just inspiration, but technique that Amiran Gogoladze takes from his compatriots, he went on to explain.

“I’m taking a little bit of everything from each fighter,” admitted Gogoladze. Which means he’s going “to take Merab’s wrestling, to take the Giga Kick from Giga Chikadze, and Levan’s timing— I’m trying to see each thing in each fighter from Georgia, and take it and put it in Amiran Gogoladze, to make another of the great fighters.” Watching his fellow Georgians, added Gogoladze, “makes me so happy and so proud to see my fellows’ success, and I can’t wait to join them on the big stages and give the country more victories.”

At Oktagon 47 in Slovakia, Gogoladze has been paired up with Lukasz Siwiec, and will be looking for his second straight win.

“Lukasz most likely is going to try to control me close to the cage,” predicted Gogoladze, noting that that was the method his opponent had been employing lately. He doesn’t expect it to work.

“I’m going to prove that there’s levels between us, and I think I’m twice above him in the levels. Because MMA is all about levels in the fight, and I’m going to prove that I’m levels above Lukasz in this fight.” Gogoladze also believes that his opponent will not be able to take him down, after focusing on his wrestling defense during training camp. “I’m going to show him the Georgian power, what it means. And I’m going to show that he cannot take me down and control me, because I’m going to dominate in this fight.”

Week five of Dana White’s Contender Series arrived on Tuesday, August 23, with a couple of familiar names adorning the card.

In a women’s strawwweight fight, Invicta FC alum Denise Gomes, who had finished UFC vet Milana Dudieva earlier this year, got her chance to make the big show. Brazil’s Gomes was paired up with another Brazilian prospect, Rayanne Amanda, who entered the fight on a four-fight win streak.

Those who caught DWCS last fall would also likely recognize Errison Ferreira. The flyweight earned a win on the Contender Series last season, but was not awarded a contract. Tough he had not fought since, Ferreira was brought back for a fight with Jesus Santos Aguilar on Tuesday — and nearly missed weight, coming in 0.5lbs over the limit on his first attempt Monday.

A second attempt after some additional cutting would see Ferreira come in just under the flyweight limit, but whether a tough weight cut would dog him in the fight remained to be seen.

Full results from Dana White’s Contender Series 51, which takes place at the UFC Apex and airs live on ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass, can be found below.

Rayanne Amanda and Denise Gomes kicked off the DWCS 51 card, with Gomes firing a number of spinning attacks including a wheel kick, looking for the highlight reel finish. That didn’t happen, and instead she had to fight off Amanda’s takedown attempts throughout the rest of the round. In the second, a Gomes flying knee fell short, allowing Amanda to get the fight down — but it didn’t stay there. Instead, Gomes got back to her feet, and took over from there. By the third, a bloodied Amanda was spamming overhand rights while eating leg kicks, and was falling behind. Gomes would win the unanimous decision after 15 minutes, with Dana White twice standing up and applauding during the fight.

Josh Wang-Kim showed some solid kicks and footwork in the opening round of his bantamweight fight with Cameron Saaiman. But come the second round, Saaiman had turned the tables, and in the third, Saaiman had Wang-Kim trapped against the fence. The exchange that followed saw Saaiman land a blistering left hook that turned out the lights, and had White calling him a bad-ass.

The second time was not the charm for Erisson Ferreira, who tapped to a guillotine choke in the third round of his fight with Jesus Santos Aguilar.

Georgia’s Amiran Gogoladze’s night was over almost before it started. After going after an arm-bar against Darrius Flowers, Flowers hoisted Gogoladze up for a slam! He landed it, and moments later, the fight was over, with the Georgian having injured his shoulder on impact.

In the featured fight, Michael Parkin made short work of Eduardo Neves. The pair brawled early before Parkin landed a double leg takedown. Neves gave up his back almost immediately, and Parkin took advantage, seeking in the choke.

Dana White’s Contender Series Season 6, Week 5 Results

Heavyweight: Michael Parkin def. Eduardo Neves by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 1, 1:57
Welterweight: Darrius Flowers def. Amiran Gogoladze by TKO (injury), Round, 1:13
Flyweight: Jesus Santos Aguilar def. Erisson Ferreira by submission (guillotine choke), Round 3, 1:56
Bantamweight: Cameron Saaiman def. Josh Wang-Kim by Knockout, Round 3, 2:52
Women’s Strawweight: Denise Gomes def. Rayanne Amanda by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Contract Winners: Denise Gomes, Cameron Saaiman, Jesus Santos Aguilar, Darrius Flowers, Michael Parkin

The first couple seasons of Dana White’s Contender Series were largely domestic. The vast majority of the fighters came from the US with a heavy reliance on fighters in and around the Vegas area. Lucky for those like Amiran Gogoladze, the series has taken on a much more international flavor as of late. The Georgian will appear on the 5th installment of this season, looking to pick up his contract.

However, although the show has opened up to fighters like Gogoladze, the reality of travelling to the US from parts of he world can still be tough. As a result, the 24-year old will be doing this trip largely by himself.

“It’s the first time I’m leaving Georgia and I’m going alone because there are some issues with my corner,” Gogoladze said through his interpreter. “So when I’m going alone to the US, it motivates me so much.”

That’s not to say that Gogoladze won’t have a corner of any kind. He’s relying on some contacts he has as well as the goodwill of his countrymen to piece one together for Tuesday.

“I have a lot of friends in the US – Georgian friends, also my manager – his fighters will join me in the corner,” he said. “But I hope the Georgian US fighters will help me also.”

Despite these obstacles, Gogoladze knows he was built for this moment. With confidence as high as it can go, he’s ready not just to deliver a big win, but to deliver a message to the UFC’s boss-man.

“When I go to Dana White’s [Contender] Series, I fight there and I win – I’m sure that I’ll win this fight,” Gogoladze stated confidently. “I will go right to Dana White’s eyes and say ‘give me the f*cking contract!”

Gogoladze will attempt to take home that Contract this Tuesday on Dana White’s Contender Series. He’ll fight Darrius Flowers in the co-main event of the evening on ESPN+.

The midway mark of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 6 arrives this week, and how time has flown by.

From the instantly quotable warning from Dana White in week one, urging fighters to “be Joe Pyfer,” to a couple of five-contract weeks on the show, it’s been a busy season once again on DWCS. In week five, women’s strawweights right up to heavyweights were set to vie for UFC contracts, with a couple of familiar names in action.

Invicta FC fans would likely recognize Demise Gomes, who arrived in the all-female fighting promotion earlier this year. There, the Brazilian strawweight picked up an impressive third-round stoppage against UFC veteran Milana Dudieva — a win that no doubt landed her the Contender Series opportunity arriving Tuesday night.

Also set for the card was Amiran Gogoladze, yet another promising talent out of Georgia looking to break into the UFC.

Weigh-ins for the latest installment of Dana White’s Contender Series will once again take place on Monday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Results can be found below.

Dana White’s Contender Series Season 6, Week 5 Weigh-In Results

Heavyweight: Eduardo Neves (265) vs. Michael Parkin (259)
Welterweight: Amiran Gogoladze (170.5) vs. Darrius Flowers (171)
Flyweight: Erisson Ferreira (125.5)* vs. Jesus Santos Aguilar (125.5)
Bantamweight: Cameron Saaiman (136) vs. Josh Wang-Kim (135)
Women’s Strawweight: Rayanne Amanda (115.5) vs. Denise Gomes (115.5)

* Ferreira weighed in behind a barrier at 0.5lbs over the flyweight limit, and required medical clearance to continue his cut. He made weight on his second attempt.

Pros and Cons

Eduardo Neves

Pros

Nasty elbows

Dangerous in exchanges

Solid head movement

Good ground and pound

Good output

Heavy hands/Knockout power

Fast starter

Cons

Questionable grappling defense

Too willing to brawl

Michael Parkin

Pros

Competent wrestling

Heavy top position

Good ground and pound

Good jab

Cons

Hands too wide

Questionable chin

Gas tank slows over time

Who has the advantage?

Striking: Neves
Speed: Neves
Output/Volume: Neves
Kickboxing: Even
Striking defense: Neves
Footwork/movement: Neves
Wrestling: Parkin
Grappling: Parkin
More likely to finish on the mat: Parkin
Gas tank: Neves

Prediction: Heavyweight picks are often tough to predict, but not this one.

The biggest thing surrounding this fight is the level of competition. The best guy Parkin beat was 7-7 and for Neves, it’s 5-0. Neves has beaten three undefeated fighters and Parkin hasn’t fought anyone with a winning record as a pro.

This fight has a real good chance of Neves going in and out in under a minute. I don’t see Parkin being competitive anywhere. Parkin may be better on the mat but that’s on paper. I see Neves drawing out a brawl and knocking out Parkin early.
