The undercard also features action in the women’s flyweight division as former longtime Bellator champion Liz Carmouche takes on fellow UFC veteran Viviane Araujo while another UFC veteran in Ariane da Silva takes on perennial contender Jena Bishop.

Usman Nurmagomedov, arguably the PFL’s biggest star, looked to defend his lightweight title against World Tournament winner Alfie Davis on Saturday.

The lightweight title fight headlined PFL: Road to Dubai at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, UAE, the first card of 2026 for the promotion.

An “Usman! Usman! Usman!” chant immediately broke out in the arena, while Davis flashed stance switches in response to Nurmagomedov’s kicks. The champ followed suit with a stance change of his own. While Davis would connect with a probing leg kick, Nurmagomedov’s kicks were significantly stronger. Kicks were key through the first two minutes, with the champ employing a front kick, and even a spinning wheel kick.

After battling it out on the feet for four minutes, mostly kicks with the odd punch thrown into the mix, Nurmagomedov landed the first takedown of the fight. The champ found himself in half guard, Davis along the fence, locking his hands together, trying to prevent Nurmagomedov from improving position. No such luck, but Davis ate enough time to escape the round.

Nurmagomedov opened round two with another spinning kick, with Davis blocking and escaping. The challenger was firing the odd kick of his own, but found himself outperformed in terms of volume. Davis did fire a trio of kicks, the final attack a spinning kick. Nurmagomedov fired a head kick, but slipped. As the round progressed, Davis loosened up, with lots of creative kicks of his own fired. The problem was, champ Nurmagomedov avoided most of them, slipping under the best of the bunch.

Round three opened with a Nurmagomedov takedown, a considerable change of pace following a second frame that was getting a bit wild by the end. Nurmagomedov found enough space to drill some punches to the body and side of the head. Davis struggled to escape but would eventually return to his feet, only to be met with front kicks and forward pressure from the champ.

Then, a takedown attempt, a follow-up, and Nurmagomedov was back on top. This time, Davis was cramped against the fence, went belly down, and Nurmagomedov was able to get the hooks in. He got an arm under the neck, flattening Davis out, and forced the tap!

Official Result: Usman Nurmagomedov (c) def. Alfie Davis by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 3, 4:41

The Professional Fighters League is embarking on a critical year, kicking off its 2026 with PFL: Road to Dubai at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, UAE on Saturday.

Gone is PFL founder Donn Davis. Gone is longtime exec, PFL President of Fighter Operations Ray Sefo. Gone too is former PFL CEO Peter Murray. After an apparent cleaning of the house, John Martin is now firmly in place as the PFL’s CEO, and he has his work cut out for him.

Francis Ngannou has been nowhere to be found, and Cris Cyborg is nearing retirement. With Kayla Harrison departed for the UFC, and Ryan Bader off to RIZIN, the league is low on star power, but Usman Nurmagomedov remains a bright spot.

Nurmagomedov, who came in as part of the PFL’s Bellator acquisition, is 27, undefeated at 20-0, 1NC, and now holds lightweight gold. After back-to-back wins over Paul Hughes, the cousin of UFC legend Khabib now takes on PFL World Tournament lightweight winner Alfie Davis to top PFL: Road to Dubai.

Results from Saturday, Feb. 7’s PFL: Road to Dubai card can be found below.

The PFL will return to action this Saturday and it will feature a pair of bouts expected to propel the promotion forward at a crucial time.

At the top of the card, lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov will look to avenge the loss of his longtime teammate against 2025 World Tournament champion Alfie Davis. Many questions circle Nurmagomedov who will look to build on his two close victories over Irish sensation Paul Hughes. Once one of Bellator’s top prospects, Nurmagomedov has now matured into a top talent who could end up as one of the most sought after free agents on the market should he keep his undefeated record intact for the remaining pair of fights on his contract.

Standing in his way is Davis who notched the victory of his career in completing the World Tournament last fall and reigning supreme. In the final, he bested the defending champion and Nurmagomedov’s teammate from the Abdoulmanap Nurmagomedov school in Dagestan: Gadzhi Rabadanov. But while he’s now in a more personal bout with the PFL’s first undisputed lightweight champion, he must show that it was no accident that he has reached this point.

In the co-main event, a pair of welterweights will final return to the cage with a chance to reintroduce themselves to the audience and set up a high profile bout later this year. In June of 2024, Ramazan Kuramagomedov bested former Bellator champion Jason Jackson to claim the rebranded Bellator Champions Series title. In November of the same year, Shamil Musaev went on to win the welterweight Grand Prix and become the second title holder for the promotion in the weight class. Neither man competed in 2025 under any of the brands the PFL has which led to questions about when the two would return. The matchup will test the more experienced Musaev against the slightly younger Kuramagomedov in a bout that will see two of the more complete talents that the promotion has to offer.

But that is only the first step. The winner is undoubtedly set to welcome 2025 World Tournament winner Thad Jean back sometime later this year. Jean was among the most visible athletes on the roster during his run and it is expected that his return fight in 2026 will be one of the bigger bouts for the company. Considering the championship experience behind both Musaev and Kuramagomedov, the bout with Jean will showcase some of the best elite talent that the company has been able to draft in recent years.

If there is one area where the PFL shines, it is finding talent that might otherwise not get the same opportunities so quickly in other promotions. On Saturday, two of Nurmagomedov’s teammates from the Abdoulmanap School will be in action on the prelims. The first is undefeated former Eagle FC bantamweight champion Renat Khavalov who meets Karate Combat veteran Edgars Skrivers in early action. The other fighter is another undefeated combatant in former UAE lightweight champion Amru Magomedov who meets Kolton Englund in the featured prelim of the night.

Speaking on the two, coach and UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov said “I don’t see many people in the world who can beat them…Maybe I can say one, two, maybe three guys can give them a hard time because I’ve been in this sport in general so many years. I was in professional sports since I was a kid, and even when I wasn’t competing, I saw so many champions, and these two guys I don’t think many people can even give them a hard time.” (h/t Red Corner MMA)

While there have not been many announcements made for the second quarter of the year, it is understandable that the PFL will want Saturday’s event in Dubai to set the tone for the promotion as they head toward their next key event in March and the rest of the year.

This Saturday, the PFL will return to action for the first time in 2026 as their lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov will be taking on Alfie Davis. This will be the third straight time that Nurmagomedov will be fighting in Dubai after headlining two pivotal events against Paul Hughes.

While Nurmagomedov has downplayed it, there is no doubt that this fight is slightly more personal for him and his team. Davis won the 2025 World Tournament and did so by besting the defending champion and fellow member of the Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov school: Gadzhi Rabadanov. While Nurmagomedov has downplayed how much extra incentive he feels to avenge his teammate, there’s no question the two have a natural friction going into the fight. Being one of the highest profile fighters from the team bearing his surname, Nurmagomedov expressed at media day that it’s not personal with Davis but that he does know the pressure that comes with representing his team and carrying on the reputation of dominance expected of them:

“About Alfie Davis, I don’t think nothing. He’s just somebody in my way, and I have to finish him. That’s it. I’m tired of fighting all five rounds. For this fight I have prepared something special…Our legacy is legacy for Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov school. Always when I go into the cage, I know I have to prove that legacy. We’re here just to show people we’re the best in the world.”

It’s not lost on anyone that this is an important stretch for the team. Usman’s elder brother Umar Nurmagomedov is coming off a key victory two weeks ago in the UFC against Deiveson Figueiredo to put himself back in serious title contention. Then of course, their famed elder cousin Khabib Nurmagomedov looks to continue his excellent record as coach. In speaking about one of the youngest members of the contingent when he started out, Nurmagomedov said:

“Alfie Davis and Usman. They don’t like each other, and this is good. They both have unpredictable fight style. The way I see it, Usman is better than him. But he has good movement, he is a dangerous fighter for us…ou know Alfie and Usman have unpredictable fight style. They move a lot, have good kicks, spinning kicks. But I think Usman is one class above, Usman is better. We are preparing for a long night. We don’t prepare for one round finish, we prepare for five round fight, but if a finish comes, Usman is going to finish him.”

Going into the fight, there’s no doubt that the team is enjoying a great moment. As stated, Usman’s older brother is coming off a huge win and their longtime friend and teammate Islam Makhachev is at the top of the sport after winning a title in a second weight class. But a major talking point from the team by both Khabib Nurmagomedov and the longtime American Kickboxing Academy head coach Javier Mendez is that Usman Nurmagomedov may be the one to be remembered as the best fighter ever to come from the team. Per Khabib:

“Honestly, I learnt a lot about Usman because of his last two fights. In first fight it showed a couple weaknesses of Usman. And second fight, he fixed it. He improved mentally, he improved physically. He improved his skills, and I learned a lot about him…Our goal is to make him best fighter pound for fighter, and best to ever do this. Me and Coach Jav, and when my father was alive, he was working very hard and he believed he could be best to ever do this. And now me and Coach Jav work morning and night not to make him not just champion who can defend title six times, our goal is to make him best fighter pound for pound and best to do this of all time. He has very big potential for this.”

On the other side of the cage, Alfie Davis is intent on spoiling the party. He carries the advantage that he’s faced the team and feels he carries the advantage of great perspective after watching Nurmagomedov’s past two fights:

“People say he’s a great wrestler, I do think he has good wrestling, but his pedigree was not actually wrestling. He started wrestling in his later teens, he’s not like the other Dagestanis. And when you look at him, he doesn’t have a great driving double legs, he’s got more cheeky trips. And even on the floor he’s not good at holding, Paul [Hughes] managed to get up every single time. He’s more of a back taker and stall on the back. What Usman does well is he steals exchanges very well. This is why he’s not got a huge amount of KOs, he doesn’t go for the kill, he wins on taking the exchanges in the fight and stealing rounds. If you were to put him in a wrestling match with good wrestlers, I don’t think he’d fare well. I think he’s a decent grappler, but I think there are ways to exploit what he does.”

Finally, Davis says that a personal goal would be to prove his skills to the point that he coerces the Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov School’s famed leader out of retirement:

“It’s a shame, I really like Khabib. I really respect him. But after I beat Usman, he’s the final boss of the team, I’ve got to fight him. He’s got to come out of retirement, you know what I mean?”

The PFL has announced its first main event of 2026, and it’s a promising one.

Lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov (20-0, 1NC) will once again be fighting in Dubai, when he takes on 2025 PFL World Tournament winner Alfie Davis (20-5-1). The title fight takes place at the Coca-Cola Arena on February 7, 2026.

News of the booking was announced on Thursday morning by PFL CEO John Martin.

Nurmagomedov won both of his fights in 2025, against the same individual: Paul “Big News” Hughes. After a close decision in the pair’s first encounter this past January, the pair threw down for a second time last month. In another close, but slightly less controversial decision, Nurmagomedov again saw his hand raised.

The former Bellator MMA lightweight champion is undefeated in his career, though a win over Brent Primus was overturned to a No Contest after the Dagestani failed a drug test in 2023. At the time, Bellator opted not to strip Nurmagomedov of his lightweight title as the incident was found to be the result of accidental contamination of a prescription drug.

Fellow Bellator alum Alfie Davis won all three of his fights in 2025 to win the PFL World Tournament at lightweight. That stretch saw Davis stop Clay Collard, before earning decisions over Brent Primus and Gadzhi Rabadanov. With Rabadanov a teammate of Nurmagomedov under his cousin Khabib (and previously under the late Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov), the stage has been set for a revenge fight of sorts.

Lightweights Gadzhi Rabadanov and Alfie Davis closed out Friday’s PFL Charlotte, with the PFL World Tournament lightweight championship (and $500,000 in prize money) on the line.

Davis, like Rabadanov, was a former Bellator MMA star, but it was Gadzhi who was looking to repeat as a PFL champ, having won the promotion’s 155lb title last year.

Rabadanov fired a heavy hook inside of a minute into the PFL Charlotte main event, though it wouldn’t connect. Moments later, a connection was made, unfortunately, it was an inside kick landing low on the 2024 PFL Global champ. He didn’t take much recovery time, and they went right back at it.

Holding center, Rabadanov forced Davis to work counters with his back to the cage; Davis was happy enough to oblige, firing an overhand left with about 90 seconds still on the clock. Big windup, but it hit air. Still, Davis did find the mark at times, and Rabadanov was soon showing a bit of damage.

In round two, it was Rabadanov landing an early takedown, on top with lots of time to work. Davis, away from the fence, seemed content to hold Rabadanov in place, trying to stall his progress. Rabadanov would back off, fire a punch, and re-engage, with Davis at least getting to the cage wall. Still, Rabadanov would spent the rest of the round on top.

Round three saw Davis break out some slick elbows, even firing a back elbow on the feet as the round progressed. Rabadanov was walking the Brit down, but for the first time in the fight, Alfie seemed to be feeling himself. He added a kick to the midsection, landing it more than once. Rabadanov stayed patient as Davis circled outside. A closer third round after a clear Rabadanov round in the second. Davis would punctuate the round with a spinning elbow attack.

Gadzhi Rabadanov went back to what had worked in round two in the fourth frame, getting the fight to the ground and trapping Davis there. Davis was stuck on his back for an extended period, and even with Rabadanov doing minimal damage from the top, Davis was doing even less off his back. He had a butterfly guard in place at times, but simply couldn’t create space or scramble out. You could practically hear the tick of the clock as precious seconds dripped away.

Round five opened with the fight either tied, or Rabadanov up 3-1, likely dependent on a very close first frame. The first couple of minutes into the fifth and final round were fairly close, though just past the midway mark, Davis nearly caught Rabadanov with a knee as he shot in for a takedown. Davis might have had a slight edge in striking to that point. Still, in a close round and close fight, Rabadanov was able to land a takedown with about a minute to go. He’d finish the fight on top, and they would head off to the judges.

After a very close fight, all three judges awarded the bout to Alfie Davis, who called for the winner of Usman Nurmagomedov vs. Paul Hughes 2. Davis then offered to put the belt in next year’s World Tournament if he were to win it.

Official Result: Alfie Davis def. Gadzhi Rabadanov by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47)

As it was put to lightweight PFL World Tournament finalist Alfie Davis during the PFL Charlotte media day on Wednesday, opponent Gadzhi Rabadanov is beyond confident.

Of course, England’s Davis (19-5-1) is confident as well, and he believes both fighters brimming with self-belief should help the PFL Charlotte main event deliver.

“It’s gonna lend to a good fight. We’re both confident, we both feel like we’ve got the skill set to beat each other,” stated Davis on Wednesday. “So I think that when we meet in the middle, that’s going to make a great fight.”

Davis is excited to show off his striking against an opponent he has called the “runt” of his team, though he walked that comment back somewhat.

“I’m excited to show all of my striking skills, because he’s got powerful hands, but he’s limited in everything else that he can do. I’m excited to show the whole array of striking – the knees, the elbows, the kicks, and just how the eight limbs are going to fare against just his hands.”

As noted, Davis has backed off the “runt” comment, though he still believes Rabadanov is not the best fighter on his team, one that includes coach Khabib Nurmagoemdov, former UFC lightweight champ Islam Makhachev, and PFL Champions Series lightweight champ Usman Nurmagomedov.

Still, Rabadanov is very, very good, Davis acknowledged.

“People rate him as one of the best in the world, so if I beat him, then I’m undoubtedly one of the best lightweights in the world. And that’s what I’ve believed for a while, it’s just about doing it under the lights, and I feel like this is an opportunity for me to do it under the lights and gain that respect that I deserve.”

Davis also spoke about what being part of the PFL has meant for him. He arrived, as many others did, through the promotion’s acquisition of rival Bellator MMA.

“The PFL has changed my life to be honest with you. Before even the tournament, I was with Bellator, and I had a decent career and some okay money, but being able to have three fights in a year, and just financially what that means to me, and just being able to be in the peak of my career. Because at the minute, I’m in the peak of my career and sometimes people get shelved at the peak of their career. But I’m having three fights by the end of August, and hopefully having one more by the end of the year.”

“I’m really living out the peak of my career. I hope to [continue to] do that in the next few years, and that will really set me sailing into having a really good MMA career,” Davis finished.
