At least, it would have been a bantamweight main event, had Lehner not come in heavy for the fight, necessitating a catchweight. The main event wasn’t the only fight on Friday to require a shift in weight, as co-main event flyweight DeAnna Bennett missed the mark, officially for the fourth time in her professional career. Bennett had seen a title shot against Liz Carmouche under the Bellator banner slip through her fingers after missing weight a few years back; no title was on the line in Kansas City, but it was still a troubling speed bump for Bennett after she’d hit the mark for her last two fights.

Rubin in particular has been no stranger to title shots. In 2019, after starting her career 6-0, “Big Bad” was granted a shot against then-Bellator MMA women’s featherweight champion Julia Budd. The fight didn’t go her way, and arguably came a little too early in her run, but Rubin became more of a household name thanks to the bout.

After losing a follow-up against Sinead Kavanagh, she exited Bellator, picked up a win for Oktagon MMA in 2021, and joined the Invicta ranks with an immediate bantamweight title shot opposite the promotion’s 135lb champ at the time, Taneisha Tennant. Dropping a split decision, Rubin again went into rebuild mode and won her next two fights (one with a rarely seen buggy choke), which took her to a title fight against Talita Bernardo- which found Rubin submitted.

All was not lost for Olga Rubin however. Bernardo dropped her belt to Jennifer Maia in December, and Rubin has been as reliable as they come for Invicta. As for Mayra Cantuária, the Brazilian is 1-1 in Invicta FC and coming off a non-title decision loss to Maia that she’d no doubt like the chance to avenge.

With UFC veterans Shanna Young and Victoria Leonardo also in action on Friday, Invicta FC 60 should be one to watch!

Also in action on the night, former Invicta strawweight champ Valesca “Tina Black” Machado, taking on Yasmin Castanho, and ex-Bellator star and former flyweight title challenger for that promotion, Alejandra Lara. The always sunny Lara was paired up with Paula Bittencourt.

In the co-main event, Jackie Cataline, having fought everywhere from Bellator to the PFL to (not so much fighting, but she competed there) Dana White’s PowerSlap, returned looking to win two straight under the Invicta FC banner against Riley Martinez.

Ducote had risen to fame as a flyweight in Bellator MMA, facing Ilima-Lei Macfarlane (for their second fight) in 2017 with the inaugural Bellator women’s 125lb title on the line. While the title fight didn’t go her way, Ducote’s profile had grown enough to earn her a run in Invicta FC that saw her drop to strawweight. There, she captured the 115lb title for the all-female fighting promotion in 2021.

After defending her belt, Ducote landed in the UFC, defeating a former title challenger in Jessica Penne in her debut. Losing three of her next four fights, however, Ducote was shown the door, and returns to Invicta looking to bounce back against Yulia Ostroverkhova.

Challenging for Invicta gold for the second time was Olga Rubin, who in the past had also contended for featherweight gold in Bellator.

Early on, Rubin pressed the action, keeping Bernardo on the outside. About 90 seconds in, they went to the ground, with Rubin catching the champ in a modified triangle. Rubin fired punches, while Bernardo looked to methodically work her way out. When she did, another scramble led to Bernardo taking the back, getting her hooks in and hunting for the rear-naked choke.

Round two opened with Rubin driving the champ against the fence, but she could not keep Bernardo there long. Bernardo circled on the outside, firing a low kick, while Rubin responded with a right hand. They would clinch up off a Rubin head kick, Bernardo in the driver’s seat- with the champ eventually landing a trip takedown. Rubin was very active off her back, and nearly scrambled free, only for Bernardo to take the back. Hooks in, she again went hunting for a rear-naked choke, while Rubin fought the hands.

It would take a little bit, but this time, the submission was there, with Rubin eventually forced to tap.

Talita Bernardo improved to 5-0 since exiting the UFC on the night, with three submission finishes in that stretch. That actually puts the Brazilian on the best run of her professional fighting career.

The all-female fighting promotion led by President Shannon Knapp has not been seen since 2023, with rumors of their demise making the rounds in recent months. Knapp, however, had other plans, and Invicta now returns with a new U.S. broadcast partner in CBS Sports Network, which briefly housed Bellator MMA a couple of years back.

For Invicta FC 55, the promotion is back in familiar territory, with the event housed in the confines of the Memorial Hall in St. Louis, MO. Topping the card, former UFC fighter turned Invicta bantamweight champ Talita Bernardo, making the first defense of her title against former Bellator MMA women’s featherweight Olga Rubin.

Back in 2019, Rubin challenged then-champ Julia Budd for the Bellator belt, coming up short. She made her way to Invicta FC in 2022, losing a title fight against Taneisha Tennant before putting together back-to-back wins over Serena DeJesus and Claire Guthrie.

Also on the card, the return of UFC alum Kay Hansen.

With the city’s deep Irish roots, it was no surprise to see Dublin, Ireland’s Danni McCormack headlining the show, looking to defend her strawweight title for the first time. Opposite McCormack, Poland’s Karolina Wojcik, getting her first shot at Invicta gold.

Wojcik had fallen in the Invicta strawweight tournament to Valesca Macadho — who happened to be on Friday’s card as well, facing Kalindra Faria in the co-main event, also at 115lbs.

Among other familiar names on the bill, Kristina “War Horse” Williams, a Bellator MMA veteran who had seen a three-fight win streak snapped in her last outing.

On the Invicta front, it was atomweight champ Jillian DeCoursey in the main event, looking to make the first defense of her title after winning the belt last year against Jessica Delboni. Decoursey had gone two for two in 2022, knocking out Lindsey VanZandt to earn a title shot, then submitting Delboni.

Brazilian Rayanne dos Santos, a former Dana White’s Contender Series fighter who came up short on the show, had also won two straight ahead of her title challege, including her Invicta FC debut.
