A pair of former flyweight title challengers faced off at UFC Perth on Saturday, with Australia’s own Steve Erceg taking on veteran Tim Elliott.

Both men were coming off victories, with Elliott on a modest two-fight win streak including a submission of Kai Asakura last August. Erceg had most recently found success against Ode Osbourne.

Elliott came out with is trademark unusual style throwing multiple spinning kicks to the body early. Erceg stayed composed and looked for a big shot on the outside. A right hand from Erceg landed on the chin of Elliott. After eating the blow Elliott returned fire and connected on a punch inside the momentarily dropped Erceg. Elliott would land a takedown moments later that may have secured him the round.

A nice jab from Elliott got things going in the second round. The veteran would throw a dangerous elbow right after that nearly missed Erceg’s chin. Elliott was in an out of range bobbing back and forth with jabs and body shots. At the midway mark of the round Elliott would land another takedown. Erceg continued to circle the outside, looking to counter with straight punches as Elliott came in. Both fighters would land a takedown before the fight returned to the feet. This was quickly turning into a high pace fight that looked to be taking its affect on both competitors.

With the fight likely scored 1-1 the third round would be the deciding frame of the fight. Erceg was putting together some of his best volume this round throwing a considerable amount of punches in the first minute. The jab of Erceg was starting to keep Elliott at bay, while landing points for the Australian. Elliott was walking through punches, but it was Erceg was doing the damage from the outside. A great fight between these two flyweights went to the scorecards with Erceg picking up a much needed win at home.

Official Result: Steve Erceg def. Tim Elliott via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Rahiki came into the bout undefeated and off a successful UFC debut victory in March after earning a UFC contract on Contender Series last October. The Moroccan featherweight, now living and training in Sydney, scored a second-straight (third if you could DWCS) in the UFC when he took Schmid out in Perth.

Round 1 – Schmid came out aggressively, looking to establish his game with kicks early. Rahiki answered right back, prompting Schmid to surge forward with a flurry.

Unwilling to give ground, Rahiki fired off flashy spinning attacks in search of a knockout. Schmid circled away, staying on his bike to avoid the danger. Rahiki eventually backed him to the fence, cutting off escape routes and forcing the UFC newcomer to fight his way out.

Rahiki remained composed, reading Schmid’s offense and countering with sharp combinations. Schmid pressed forward with straight shots and briefly found success, but Rahiki responded in a big way—landing a crushing left hand that dropped the newcomer and brought the fight to an immediate end.

Rahiki stays undefeated and secures a finish bonus with the emphatic victory at UFC Perth.

Brando Pericic got a solid step up in competition at UFC Perth, as he took on Shamil Gaziev in heavyweight action.

2-0 in the UFC entering the fight, Pericic was fighting for the third time well inside 12 months and hoping to book a fourth date inside that mark. Gaziev, fighting for the first time in 2026, was looking to shake off a loss to Waldo Cortes-Acosta.

The big boys met in the middle of the Octagon to set off the second fight of the main card, with the fans hoping for fireworks after a lackluster Tuivasa vs. Sutherland. Pericic found success first, landing a low kick on the outside leg of Gaziev. Quickly, though, the two were trading in the pocket, with Shamil Gaziev clipping Pericic before bringing him down to the ground for his first takedown.

Back to his feet, Pericic was still caught in the grasp of the No. 14-ranked heavyweight in the world, Shamil Gaziev, who let go with a number of clinch strikes before the referee broke them up. With the two back in striking range, Brando Pericic started unloading countless power shots, wobbling Gaziev back to the cage. Gaziev continued to survive, throwing power right back in the face of Pericic, as both men absolutely slugged it out for the remainder of the first round. It was a difficult round to score, as each had their moments, but Pericic’s shots seemed to have a much bigger impact.

Round two was a continued throwdown from round one, with the heavyweights showing little regard for striking defense. Pericic started to take the lead in numbers, with his speed giving him a clear advantage on the feet. After stringing a few straights together, the “Balkan Bear” hurt Gaziev, finishing him off with a power right hand that crumbled the ranked heavyweight to the ground.

Brando Pericic moved to 7-1, earning his third straight knockout in three UFC appearances. Likely to have a number next to his name soon, Pericic called for a spot at UFC Serbia later this year.

Official Results: Brando Pericic def. Shamil Gaziev via R2 KO, 3:44

Round 1 – Both fighters came out firing, hands high and loaded as the feeling-out process barely lasted a moment. Sutherland opened with a leg kick the usual tactic against Tuivasa, before quickly shooting for a takedown.

Tuivasa briefly threatened with a guillotine, forcing Sutherland to disengage.

Undeterred, Sutherland shot again and managed to bring Tuivasa down, but the guillotine threat once more allowed Tuivasa to work his way back to his feet. Sutherland kept him pinned along the fence until Tuivasa created space with two heavy shots upstairs.

That moment sparked Tuivasa, who surged forward with a flurry. Sutherland responded by shooting for another takedown, but it was initially stuffed. The two exchanged in close before Sutherland attempted yet another entry, stuffed again, but he transitioned quickly, rolling through and dragging Tuivasa to the mat to secure top position.

From there, Sutherland controlled the action, landing elbows from above while shutting down any attempts from Tuivasa to escape.

Sutherland defended well and returned to landing steady ground strikes.

City Kickboxing middleweight Cam Rowston looked to make it three straight wins in the UFC on Saturday when he faced Robert Bryczek in the UFC Perth featured prelim.

Bryczek, a former champ in Poland’s FEN and Oktagon MMA athlete, was 1-1 in the octagon to date.

Rowston got the party started with a few kicks to the body to set his range, but Bryczek brought forward pressure early. Bryczek had some difficulty getting past the long arms and high volume of feints from Rowston, though he eventually found his flow, landing a beautiful series of hooks to the body. Rowston, clearly a bit rattled from the shots, responded with a takedown to bring the Polish middleweight to the ground. However, it wasn’t long before the two returned to the feet, where Rowston resumed his success at range. With around a minute left, the Australian went back to the grappling, bringing Bryczek to the mat for the remainder of round one and landing crushing elbows from top position.

Bryczek continued moving forward in the second round, chopping at the lead leg of Rowston, though again he found himself in trouble with the Australian’s reach. After sticking a few stiff straights that stopped Bryczek in his tracks, Rowston returned the fight to where he dominated at the end of the first round. Around three minutes of ground-and-pound ensued once Rowston found himself postured up, with a vulnerable Bryczek in his guard, to close the second.

Round three was more of the same for the home fighter, Cam Rowston, who found a quick early takedown. Bryczek did not offer much resistance, but kept his wits about him while scrambling from bottom position. Rowston continued to mix it up well, staying busy with ground-and-pound and transitioning forward while looking to end the fight. Despite his efforts, Poland’s Robert Bryczek survived all 15 minutes, forcing the two middleweights to the scorecards.

All three judges scored the fight in favor of the “Battle Giraffe,” as the 31-year-old extended his win streak to seven and moved his record to 15-3.

Official Result: Cam Rowston def. Robert Bryczek by unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–27)

New Zealand’s Junior Tafa looked to snap a two-fight skid at UFC Perth when he took on Kevin Christian in light heavyweight action.

The former heavyweight was 0-2 since returning to the weight class for the first time since his very first pro fight. Christian was 0-1 in the UFC and looking for his first victory inside the octagon after losing to a shared opponent in Tafa in Billy Elekana.

Christian employed some nasty leg kicks early, which forced Tafa to change stances. He wasn’t loving those, but let his hands fly, forcing Christian to retreat. Each kick, which was being thrown naked, was followed by a Tafa flurry. More than once, he chased Christian, and finally caught him, getting on top and unleashing with smashing elbows! Before long, Christian went stiff, knocked out cold. The ref dove in, giving Junior Tafa his first victory since his October 2024 win over Sean Sharaf.

Tafa, whose brother Justin previously competed for the UFC, returns to the win column in violent fashion, and will earn at least $25,000 for the finish, depending on how the night’s 100K performance bonuses play out.

“I deserve that bonus, baby! I’m trying to get married at the end of the year,” Tafa called out following the victory.

Official Result: Junior Tafa def. Kevin Christian by knockout (elbows), Round 1, 2:42

At UFC Perth on Saturday, in a 190lb catchweight bout, Malkoun looked to build on that success against veteran Gerald “GM3” Meerschaert.

The two got things kicked off in the center of the Octagon, with Meerschaert trying to apply early pressure. Malkoun responded with a few straight shots, finding a vulnerable target in Meerschaert at range. Soon after, however, Malkoun made the questionable decision to initiate the grappling, which Meerschaert was able to reverse into top position. Not much came from it for the veteran, but Meerschaert rode out the remainder of the round, likely banking round one with control time.

Round two looked slightly different for the Australian, as this time he kept the majority of the fight standing against the much slower Meerschaert. Fighting behind a consistent jab, Malkoun walked the American down toward the cage and found success striking. Neither man truly landed anything of major significance, despite Malkoun putting Meerschaert in troubling situations multiple times.

Hesitance continued to plague both fighters in round three, but midway through the second minute, the striking started opening up as the two middleweights traded shots. Malkoun was seemingly on his bike, moving around the outside while mixing in another surprising takedown attempt. Still crafty at an older age, Meerschaert locked up a guillotine submission as the final 30 seconds came off the clock. However, the Australian, Jacob Malkoun, persevered, surviving GM3’s last attempt at victory.

When it went to the scorecards, Jacob Malkoun earned a unanimous decision win, moving to 10-3 in his career. On the other side, Gerald Meerschaert dropped to 37-22, with a move to light heavyweight likely in the cards next.

Official Result: Jacob Malkoun def. Gerald Meerschaert by unanimous decision (29–28, 29–28, 29–28)
